After graduating from The Royal Ballet School I joined Birmingham Royal Ballet. I danced as a soloist for 20 years, touring the world dancing in New York, Chicago, Tokyo, Beijing, Europe and choreographing for many high profile companies such as Selfridges and Pandora UK.
Towards the end of my career and after having 2 children I realised I wanted to teach. I wanted to give everyone the opportunity to be taught by a professional. I started my training as a postural stability coach gaining a level 4 qualification in falls prevention exercise. I used this to work with adults who have had or are at risk of falls. Teaching weekly for the governments Dance to Health scheme. To broaden my knowledge I trained in Barcelona at YogaBody, completing their teacher training with Honours. I wanted to delve deeper into the anatomy and philosophy side of yoga so trained at Indaba Yoga Studio, Marylebone London, to gain my 200 hour traditional Hatha Raja Yoga teaching qualification. Pre-pandemic I started to build a client base for aerial yoga at a local climbing centre. During lockdown I moved my pre-professional ballet coaching and yoga online teaching students as far as Canada.
As a former professional ballet dancer I love offering private ballet coaching for children and adults, giving them an insight to life as a ballerina and also expert industry knowledge. I also get great enjoyment from specialising in aerial yoga. This form of yoga requires rigging allowing you to practice inversions and experience the many benefits of being upside down, including decompression of the spine improving realignment and posture. After the pandemic I like many are desperate to get back to a normal life, to socialise, to exercise and feel part of something. Now is an excellent time to get people back into the studio for hands on training and also to try something new like aerial yoga.
No path is straight forward. I took many unexpected turns on my way here. What matters is that we get up each day and set our foot on our journey.
There are some universal things that bring all of humanity together. We all have struggles, and we all find growth in being honest with one another.
I am grateful for the community that we are building here. Supporting one another as we walk our own paths is an important part of my practice.
